Living in Hiroshima

With a population around 1 million people, Hiroshima is a medium sized city internationally recognized as the city of peace. Situated in the bustling center of the city, Hiroshima YMCA is surrounded by places of cultural interest (such as Peace Park and the Atomic Bomb Museum) as well as shopping and entertainment facilities.
With a highly developed public transportation network of buses, trains, streetcars, and monorails, moving about Hiroshima is convenient and effortless. Miyajima Island, one of the three most scenic places in Japan, the beautiful Seto Inland Sea, Hiroshima Castle, many shrines ad temples, as well as architectural feats such as the Kintaikyo Bridge are just a few of the tourist destinations in and around Hiroshima.
By Bullet train from Hiroshima Station, Tokyo is a 4 hour ride, and Osaka and Fukuoka are only an hour and a half away. Hiroshima is also a great starting point for excursions down to Shikoku or Kyushu Islands. Blessed with a comfortable climate, Hiroshima has a big city feel, but without the prices and hassle.

œ Eating three meals a day at inexpensive restaurants will cost between \1500 and \2000.
œ Clothing is expensive in Japan, so it is best to bring clothing from home.
œ You will need to purchase a washer, refrigerator, vacuum, lights, an iron and other necessities when you move into an apartment.
œ Although living expenses vary, estimate at least \70,000 to 100,000\ per person per month.
